Maspalomas-Santa Lucía-Taidía-San Bartolomé-Maspalomas (79 km)</h3><figure class="image w-full max-w-full flex flex-wrap justify-center mx-auto"><img class="w-full" src="https://villagrancanaria.com/cms/uploads/Ruta_en_bici_Gran_Canaria_4.png"></figure><p style="text-align:justify;">This cycling route is located in the southern municipalities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Lucía de Tirajana. Its highest point is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places for cycle tourism on the island.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">We start in Maspalomas and head towards Vecindario on the GC-500 until the El Doctoral crossroad, where we turn left and take the GC-65 to go down to Era del Cardón and then turn left again until Santa Lucía de Tirajana.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Crossing the village, we must continue along the GC-654 until we reach the picturesque village of Rosiana (difficult climb!). Shortly after Taidía you will arrive at the Risco Blanco junction. Now turn left to San Bartolomé de Tirajana/Tunte and Fataga.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Crossing this village, you will reach the Arteara oasis, from where a 5 kilometre climb starts and ends at the Degollada de las Yeguas viewpoint. Maspalomas-Mogán-Cruz de San Antonio-Ayacata-San Bartolomé-Maspalomas (100 km)</h3><figure class="image w-full max-w-full flex flex-wrap justify-center mx-auto"><img class="w-full" src="https://villagrancanaria.com/cms/uploads/Ruta_ciclista_Gran_Canaria_1.png"></figure><p style="text-align:justify;">A longer route starts from Maspalomas, where you must take the GC-500 towards Mogán, drive along the coast and cross the picturesque fishing village of Arguineguín. When you reach the fishing village of Puerto de Mogán, turn right onto the GC-200.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">This is followed by a 9 kilometre descent to the village of Mogán. After 2.5 kilometres you have to follow the road to the right towards Cruz de San Antonio (10km).</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">We now turn left onto the GC-605 towards Ayacata, leaving the Presa de Las Niñas reservoir on our right. We continue on the GC-60 via San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Fataga and Arteara to the viewpoint Mirador de la Degollada de las Yeguas and finally to Maspalomas.</p><h2 class="text-3xl m-0 mb-3">Cycling events on Gran Canaria</h2><p style="text-align:justify;">Perhaps the biggest attraction for cyclists is the <a href="https://grancanariabikeweek.es/"><strong>Gran Canaria Bike Week</strong></a>, also known as <i>La Cicloturista</i>. It is probably an idea that has been orbiting in the back of one's mind and finally materialises into a certainty. Undoubtedly, when talking about the Jacobean itinerary, one usually thinks (and rightly so) of the route that leads to the Galician capital.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">However, even if it is not via the classic French Way, the Northern Way, the Portuguese Way or the Silver Way, it is possible to follow the Way of St. James from Maspalomas to Gáldar along dirt tracks, roads, <a href="https://villagrancanaria.com/blog/royal-paths-gran-canaria/"><strong>royal paths</strong></a> and more.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Unlike the traditional Way of St. James, this route through Gran Canaria has no official markings or signs, so it is recommended to use a GPS device that works without an internet connection.</p><h3 class="text-2xl m-0 mb-3">Stage 1: Maspalomas ➡️ Tunte (28 km)</h3><figure class="image w-full max-w-full flex flex-wrap justify-center mx-auto"><img class="w-full" src="https://villagrancanaria.com/cms/uploads/Etapa_1_2.png"></figure><p style="text-align:justify;">Although this first stage does not correspond to the Jacobean route of Gran Canaria, it is undoubtedly a great excuse to relive the legend of those heroes from the sea who crossed the island from the south to the highest point of the island.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">It is a long uphill hiking route that starts in Maspalomas and climbs through the Fataga ravine, passing through the village of Arteara, the town of Fataga and ends in Tunte after 28 kilometres of walking.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Way of Saint James in Gran Canaria starts at the Maspalomas lighthouse (the southernmost point of Gran Canaria) and heads north. We turn right at the first roundabout and we turn left when we reach the Maspalomas pond.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">We will always follow the hiking route up the Maspalomas ravine, passing the Tony Gallardo Park, the Holidayworld Maspalomas entertainment centre and linking up with the Fataga ravine.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The long ascent of 17 kilometres will take us to the village of Arteara, where we will be able to contemplate the Arteara Palm Grove. We continue our descent and, after about 4 kilometres, we will reach the Monte Pavón Recreational Area, an ideal place for a barbecue.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">After another 3 kilometres of descent towards the north we will pass near the village of San José de Caideros.
