Gran Canaria in October II. Active Holidays

Each of us has a different concept of what we mean by relaxing and, thus, it also reflects during our holiday. From enjoying a cocktail while soaking up the sun by the private pool of your villa Canary Islands to jumping from a plane 4,000 meters high, there is a wide and varied range of options to enjoy an active holiday: From sports, to the excitement of pure risk or the discovery of new worlds. Whatever activity you choose, we can assure you that there are very near your villa or property.

Allow us to show you the possibilities Gran Canaria offer for those who want more than a lounger during their vacation:

SPORTS TOURISM

Without a doubt, water sports gain more prominence among all activities due to the mild water temperatures and weather conditions that allow us to practice them 365 days a year.

We highlight the beaches of Vargas and Pozo Izquierdo in the eastern part of the island for windsurfing or kitesurfing with an almost constant wind which makes them perfect for reaching top speeds and do fantastic aerobatics. In both locations it is possible to rent equipment or to take up classes although we recommend Bahia Feliz or Puerto Rico for beginners as their waters are calmer.

Paddle Surf is also becoming very important in the waters of Gran Canaria with the possibility to rent equipment to practice it in areas such as Anfi del Mar and Puerto Rico where waters are more indulgent and allow you a more pleasant experience.

If you find the sea surface uninspiring, we are sure that a dive in beaches like El Cabron in the east or like Puerto de Mogan in the southwest will be a breathtaking discovery to you of the landscape and rich animal life from the seabed of the island. A whole new world for both beginners and initiates. If you are an experienced diver, we recommend a dive in group to visit the wrecks in the north.

Back on the ground and off the shore, we suggest a bike tour, a sport whose practice is growing exponentially on the island due to the increasing visits of professional and amateur teams which choose our island to train along our coasts and mountains.

If riding on two wheels is not your cup of tea and you prefer to visit know the island in a more relaxed way, hiking may be the best option as it allows you to have a direct contact with the amazing natural diversity of the island, its villages, traditions and culture from the people of Gran Canaria.

EXTREME ACTIVITIES

Extreme-Activities

Despite being one of the most populated islands of the archipelago, there are places on the island that do not have an easy access and are even unknown to many of its inhabitants. This part of our blog is especially dedicated to those who are keen on thrilling and exciting experiences.

We would like to start by recommending to experience Gran Canaria from a complete different perspective: From a bird's eye view. There are many different activities and sightseeing flights that can be found in the south of the island as the helicopter ride around the island (you can choose from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the price) or by plane. Especially worth mentioning is the possibility of becoming a “bush pilot” for a day with an intensive course that will allow you to take the controls of an aircraft at the end of the day.

You can also take to the skies of Gran Canaria without the aid of an engine on the north coast of the island in a paraglider, either be dropped from 4.200 meters high in Tandem (parachute) on the great dunes of Maspalomas or from a bridge, an experience which undoubtedly will change your life completely.

The steep walls of our ravines also pose a considerable challenge for those who love nature and climbing, especially in the west and north side of the island.
There are also many excursions related to the motor sports as Buggies, Quads, Jeep Safaris or the Karts too, although they do not pose a high risk, they are an interesting way to complete a unique experience during the day and a great excuse for well-deserved relaxing evening rest by the private pool in your villa.
