Some people say that the Banana Park is one the most fascinating place where one can spend the day in Gran Canaria, although some other people may think that it has nothing to do with the spectacular attractions in and nearby Maspalomas — for instance, the Holiday World or Palmitos Park.

Here you will see a video of the Banana Park in Gran Canaria to have a quick idea of what you will find there:

Where do Bananas come from? From Gran Canaria!

The origins of the banana have been found in Southeast Asia — concretely, in the jungles of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Generally, it is agreed that bananas were born in the southeast of Asia and in the south of the Pacific around 8 000 to 5 000 BC.

Bananas are believed to have been the first cultivated fruit in the world. They were introduced in the Canary Islands from Asia, and they became accustomed to the climate of the archipelago during approximately 16th centuries.

The bananas come from a large plantain tree, the banana plant. This kind of tree produces bunches of fruit, and each bunch weighs a lot — between 15 and 50 kilograms. Once you ripe the fruit, it is long, slightly curved and cylindrical.

At the beginning, when they are not mature enough, bananas are green — but then, they have a yellow colour and they have got small brown spots on the peel when they have reached its maximum sweetness, flavour and smell.
