Any combination of landscape that has sea and rocks always has a special appeal. For this reason, today we are going to enter a site that has these conditions: the Bufadero de La Garita in Gran Canaria.
What is a bufadero
First things first. According to the Canarian Academy of Language, a bufadero is a:
Cave formed in the rocks of the seashore in whose roof there is a hole as a skylight. When the waves enter covering its mouth, the compressed air comes out through the hole in the roof, producing a tremendous snort. The bufaderos are typical of the coasts of the volcanic islands.
Since the Canary Islands are of volcanic origin, it is quite normal to find this type of geographical feature on its coastline.
In fact, it is common that throughout the islands there are even neighborhoods or areas known as El Bufadero.
Some of the most impressive bufaderos that can be named are Los Hervideros in Lanzarote or Bufadero de Tauro in the south of Gran Canaria.
Where is the Bufadero de La Garita
This wonder of nature is located in the municipality of Telde (in the east of Gran Canaria) on the seafront promenade that joins the neighborhoods of Hoya del Pozo and La Garita, although it takes its name from this latest.
How to get to the Bufadero de La Garita in Gran Canaria
There are several ways to get to this corner of the Gran Canaria coastline:
By car
- If you are coming from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, you just have to take the GC-1 motorway heading south and take exit 7C (La Garita /Telde) along a road that runs parallel to the previous one. You must continue along it and take the exit marked Marpequeña/La Garita (GC-10). You will find three roundabouts to the Bufadero de La Garita. In the first you will have to continue straight on, in the second you will have to turn right and in the third you will have to go left (Urb. Hoya Pozuelo). Continue to the end and turn right to reach a parking lot. From there you only have to walk about 100 meters.
- If you are coming from the south of the island, you must take the GC-1 motorway to exit 8 (Telde/Valsequillo/La Garita) via the GC-10 and follow the indications from the previous point to your destination.
By bus
- at the San Telmo bus station line 75 (LPGC-Vial costero de Telde)From there you just have to walk to the promenade and continue south along the same path for about 10-15 minutes.
- If you come from the south of the island, the ideal is to take line 1 (LPGC-Puerto de Mogán)that leaves from the Maspalomas Lighthouse to the La Estrella stop. From there it is a good distance on foot (about 30 minutes) that crosses the neighborhoods of La Estrella and La Garita and then follows the seafront promenade to the destination.
Weather in Bufadero de La Garita in Gran Canaria
The climate on the coast of Telde is quite stable throughout the year, staying at an average temperature of around 20ºC, so you will hardly need warm clothes to visit this jewel of the coast of Gran Canaria.

If you are looking for a quieter atmosphere, skip the clubs and check out the numerous stylish bars, cafés and casinos throughout the cities on the island.

What to see in Gran Canaria

On an island that offers as much to the visitor as Gran Canaria, you should not miss the most attractive places on the island:

1. Maspalomas Dunes

Located on the south coast of the island, the dunes of Maspalomas were formed from ocean sand during the Ice Age and are now a nature reserve.

2. Roque Nublo

The Roque Nublo, located in Tejeda and 67 metres high, was formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago and was used by the ancient Canarians for rituals.

3. Las Canteras Beach

This urban beach is one of the best in Gran Canaria. It is almost 4 kilometres long and is protected by La Barra, a rock formation with abundant marine life.

4. Vegueta

With its narrow cobbled streets, this old part of Las Palmas transports visitors back to the 15th century, with beautiful buildings, galleries and museums steeped in history.

5. Puerto de Mogán

The canals that link the marina with the fishing port gave the town its name of Little Venice. It is a place to enjoy fresh fish on a daily basis.

Top 5 recommendations in Gran Canaria

If there is one thing that characterises this island, it is the open-mindedness of its people and the great variety of festivities that are celebrated every year:

1. Carnival of Las Palmas and Maspalomas

The most awaited event of the year in Las Palmas takes place in the first quarter, in a party full of colour and joy where you can give free rein to your imagination. Don't miss the most important events:

Los Indianos

Drag Queen Gala

Carnival Queen Gala

Carnival Parade

Burial of the Sardine

And when the carnival in the capital is over... the carnival in the south begins! The celebrations continue in Maspalomas for several more days, where you can carry on partying in your best costume.

2. Invoke good humour at the Bajada de la Rama Festival

The Bajada de la Rama is a celebration with aboriginal roots whose purpose was to ask for rain in order to have good harvests. The best thing about this festival is that it takes place in the middle of August in an idyllic setting: the village of Agaete with its white houses and the radiant blue sea of Puerto de las Nieves.

3. Dazzle yourself with colour at the Almond Blossom Festival

The peaks of the island turn white and pink every February, an occasion when the local people climb up to Tejeda. When the almond blossom is in its full splendour, it is paid tribute to with music, popular dances, a lot of joy and, above all, the best of the island's gastronomy.

4. Dive into the El Charco Festival

If you're looking for a good swim with thousands of people... La Aldea de San Nicolás is the place for you! Every September, crowds of people flock to the Charco de la Aldea to fish for mullets, a coastal fish, in an aboriginal celebration that is more alive than ever.

5. Live the Gay Pride with passion

Music and partying at all hours is what you'll find in Maspalomas, where you can dare to enjoy the cheekiness of an event that is already a benchmark in the LGTB world. It's a party where tolerance and respect are the common denominator and where countless people come to celebrate in style.
" ["experiences_heading"]=> string(31) "Top Experiences in Gran Canaria" ["experiences"]=> string(13) " 362 357 308 " ["faq"]=> string(381) "[{"question":"157"},{"question":"158"},{"question":"159"},{"question":"160"},{"question":"161"},{"question":"162"},{"question":"163"},{"question":"164"},{"question":"165"},{"question":"166"},{"question":"167"},{"question":"168"},{"question":"169"},{"question":"170"},{"question":"171"},{"question":"172"},{"question":"173"},{"question":"174"},{"question":"175"},{"question":"176"}]" ["featured_links_heading"]=> string(0) "" ["faq_heading"]=> string(64) "Frequently asked questions about holiday rentals in Gran Canaria" ["featured_links_heading_2"]=> string(0) "" ["admin_only_section"]=> string(1) "0" ["autosaved"]=> string(1) "0" ["builder"]=> string(0) "" ["controlador"]=> string(0) "" ["precontrolador"]=> string(0) "" ["tableName"]=> string(6) "cities" ["image"]=> array(1) { [0]=> array(12) { ["num"]=> string(4) "1025" ["tableName"]=> string(6) "cities" ["fieldName"]=> string(5) "image" ["recordNum"]=> string(1) "1" ["filePath"]=> string(94) "/var/www/vhosts/villagrancanaria.plandeweb.com/httpdocs/cms/uploads/shutterstock_373706371.jpg" ["urlPath"]=> string(39) "/cms/uploads/shutterstock_373706371.jpg" ["info1"]=> string(0) "" ["info2"]=> string(0) "" ["info3"]=> string(0) "" ["info4"]=> string(0) "" ["info5"]=> string(0) "" ["alt"]=> string(28) "holiday rentals gran canaria" } } ["experience_banner_images"]=> array(2) { [0]=> array(12) { ["num"]=> string(4) "1051" ["tableName"]=> string(6) "cities" ["fieldName"]=> string(24) "experience_banner_images" ["recordNum"]=> string(1) "1" ["filePath"]=> string(105) "/var/www/vhosts/villagrancanaria.plandeweb.com/httpdocs/cms/uploads/tom_keighley_9dnY4x0MKVY_unsplash.jpg" ["urlPath"]=> string(50) "/cms/uploads/tom_keighley_9dnY4x0MKVY_unsplash.jpg" ["info1"]=> string(0) "" ["info2"]=> string(0) "" ["info3"]=> string(0) "" ["info4"]=> string(0) "" ["info5"]=> string(0) "" ["alt"]=> string(31) "gran canaria casas vacacionales" } [1]=> array(12) { ["num"]=> string(5) "20146" ["tableName"]=> string(6) "cities" ["fieldName"]=> string(24) "experience_banner_images" ["recordNum"]=> string(1) "1" ["filePath"]=> string(103) "/var/www/vhosts/villagrancanaria.plandeweb.com/httpdocs/cms/uploads//cms/uploads/2018/03/maspalomas.jpg" ["urlPath"]=> string(35) "/cms/uploads/2018/03/maspalomas.jpg" ["info1"]=> string(0) "" ["info2"]=> string(0) "" ["info3"]=> string(0) "" ["info4"]=> string(0) "" ["info5"]=> string(0) "" ["alt"]=> string(23) "vacaciones gran canaria" } } ["featured_links"]=> array(0) { } ["featured_links_2"]=> array(0) { } ["faq_bd"]=> array(20) { [0]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "157" } [1]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "158" } [2]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "159" } [3]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "160" } [4]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "161" } [5]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "162" } [6]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "163" } [7]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "164" } [8]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "165" } [9]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "166" } [10]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "167" } [11]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "168" } [12]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "169" } [13]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "170" } [14]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "171" } [15]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "172" } [16]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "173" } [17]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "174" } [18]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "175" } [19]=> array(1) { ["question"]=> string(3) "176" } } ["breadcrumbField"]=> string(0) "" ["mainFieldBreadcrumb"]=> string(12) "Gran Canaria" } } ["related_experiences_bd"]=> array(1) { [0]=> array(28) { ["num"]=> string(3) "393" ["createdDate"]=> string(19) "2022-01-28 10:45:29" ["createdByUserNum"]=> string(3) "155" ["updatedDate"]=> string(19) "2022-02-03 16:13:37" ["updatedByUserNum"]=> string(3) "514" ["dragSortOrder"]=> string(2) "73" ["enlace"]=> string(48) "/experiences/bufadero-de-la-garita-gran-canaria/" ["title"]=> string(55) "Bufadero de La Garita: an unknown jewel in Gran Canaria" ["content"]=> string(5876) "
Any combination of landscape that has sea and rocks always has a special appeal.
