Mirador del Balcón, the best views of Gran Canaria

The viewpoint Mirador del Balcón in Gran Canaria is considered to have one of the best views of the island. The island's rugged terrain offers many vantage points from which to contemplate the landscape, such as the one we’re going to talk about in this article.
Also known as Andén Verde, it’s an impressive place where you can contemplate a real life movie-like postcard.
For this reason, and because it’s well worth a visit to this beautiful spot, we’ll tell you where it’s located, how to get there and what you can do at the Mirador del Balcón.
Where’s Mirador del Balcón located?
At the western end of Gran Canaria you’ll find one of the best-known panoramic views of the island, although it’s no less impressive for that matter. It’s located in the middle of the GC-200 road, which until a few years ago was the only road connecting Agaete with La Aldea de San Nicolás de Tolentino.
The viewpoint literally hangs over a mountain that drops vertically down to the immense blue of the Atlantic Ocean, from where you can see the “Tail of the Dragon” (or Cola de dragón): a wall of coastal cliffs with zigzagging peaks that resemble the back of this monstrous mythological creature.
Geographical location

- Longitude: 15.785260731347464 W
- Altitude: 357 metres
How to get to the Mirador del Balcón in Gran Canaria
The only way to get to what is considered to be one of the best viewpoints on Gran Canaria is by car. The route will vary depending on your starting point.
- From La Aldea de San Nicolás (8 minutes): if you’re coming from La Aldea de San Nicolás, take the new GC-2 road towards Agaete/Gáldar and take the first exit on the winding GC-200 (Andén Verde) to the Mirador del Balcón.
- From Agaete (36 minutes): if you’re coming from Agaete you have to leave the village on the GC-200 in the direction of La Aldea. You then have to follow and connect with the GC-2 and then connect again with the GC-200 taking the exit towards Andén Verde.
Stargazing at the Astronomical Viewpoint of El Balcón
Did you know that Gran Canaria is considered a Starlight Destination by UNESCO thanks to the great clarity of its sky? It’s not surprising that this viewpoint has spectacular properties for stargazing: a secluded spot where the force of the wind and the sea challenge us to enjoy a unique moment.
With a breathtaking darkness and hanging from the cliff, this impressive setting will transport you with a glance to infinity and a little imagination to another planet. Don't miss the Polar star or boreal constellations such as Ursa Minor, Ursa Major or Cassiopeia.
The best views of Tenerife are on Gran Canaria
The volcanic nature of Gran Canaria has shaped a very particular relief and orography that makes it possible to enjoy incredible landscapes and postcard views from spectacular viewpoints such as this one.
The winding road leading to the viewpoint, with its beautiful rugged scenery and majestic surroundings, is an experience in itself. With the island of Tenerife in the background, with the imposing Teide dominating the scene.
Where to stay to enjoy Mirador del Balcón

complete harmony with the environment and with spectacular views of Mount Teide is a unique sensation. We're going to tell you how to get to Güigüi beach, so that you can experience it first-hand.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">But first things first. Güigüi is located in the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, straddling the coastline that runs from the beach of Tasartico to the beach of La Aldea.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Güigüi is a landscape of eroded and aged surface. It’s a legendary and ancient place with a unique flora and fauna. Its forms, shaped by nature, have left traces of great depth and infinite beauty in this part of Gran Canaria.</p><h2 class="text-2xl" style="text-align:justify;">How to get to Playa de Güigüi </h2><p style="text-align:justify;">Nowadays, there are almost no virgin beaches in Gran Canaria, but Güigüi is one of them. Well, it’s sectioned into two beaches: the Chica and the Grande, both located at the respective mouths of the watersheds known by the same names.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">In Güigüi you can swim in an impressive and very special environment, since it was declared Special Natural Reserve and Area of Ecological Sensitivity by the Government of the Canary Islands for its special characteristics, without any type of construction and almost no people around.</p><h3 class="text-xl" style="text-align:justify;">How to get to the beach Playa de Güigüí on foot</h3><figure class="image m-1 w-full max-w-full flex flex-wrap justify-center mx-auto"><img class="border my-3" src="https://villagrancanaria.com/cms/uploads/Guigui_1.jpeg" alt="guigui"></figure><p style="text-align:justify;">The complicated access to Güigüi is the biggest challenge for those who want to spend a few special days in this wonderful place. To get to Güigüi on foot you have to sweat, have patience and, above all, be prepared for a long hiking route.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">First you have to go by car or bus to the small village of Tasartico, located about an hour and a half from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. When you arrive in Tasartico you have to follow a dirt road until you reach a sign indicating the length of the route: about 5 kilometres one way and about 5 kilometres return. The route is well waymarked, so you shouldn’t get lost.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The duration of the trail will vary depending on your physical condition, how loaded you are (since in Güigüi there’s no place to buy things, you’ll have to bring everything yourself), the time you start the trail (it’s advisable to leave early to avoid the hottest hours of the day and carry plenty of water), etc.</p><h3 class="text-xl" style="text-align:justify;">How to get to the beach Playa de Güigüi by boat</h3><p style="text-align:justify;">This is, without a doubt, the ultimate solution if you don’t want to make the journey on foot. Thus, from any of the nearest ports (La Aldea, Mogán, Puerto Rico or Arguineguín) you can hire an excursion company or negotiate personally with a fisherman, so he can bring you to Güigüi with his boat and return a few days later.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Even if you choose this alternative, make sure to bring extra provisions, since in bad weather it’ll be difficult for the boats to arrive, which has happened before. Regardless of the option selected, spending a few days in this paradise is a unique experience.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Watching the sunset on top of a dune with Mount Teide in the background, waking up to the sound of birds at dawn and taking a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters is priceless. And by the way, Güigüi is divided into two sections, so to go from one to another you have to take into account the tides.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Now that you know how to get to the beach Playa de Güigüi... are you ready to visit the wildest side of the island of Gran Canaria?</p>" ["titulo_de_pagina"]=> string(64) "▷ How to get to Güigüí beach 【GUIDE】 - VillaGranCanaria" ["metatag_descripcion"]=> string(154) "Find out here ⬆️ how to get to Güigüí beach in Gran Canaria on foot or by boat. ✅ Get to know one of the best kept secrets on the island's coast!" In fact, it is not a land suited to this type of crops. It has always been a place where livestock, agriculture and fishing have played a basic role within the primary sector.<br><br>In spite of this, in this environment where other crops predominate, the only place where the best coffee from the Canary Islands, Spain and Europe is produced is the Agaete Valley.<br> </p><h2 class="text-2xl">What is the Agaete coffee?</h2><p><br>Gran Canaria coffee is grown in the wonderful surroundings of the Agaete Valley. It was not until the end of the 19th century that the first seeds of coffee arrived to the island of Gran Canaria.
